Duncan is a Consultant in the firm’s Conveyancing Department and his particular focus is on agency conveyancing. His approach to work is ‘hands on’ and consequently spends a large portion of his time at the Deeds Office in Pietermaritzburg. In dealing personally with all of his clients and correspondents, Duncan is better able to understand the work involved and to offer personal service.
Duncan comes from a family of lawyers with his grandfather, father and both of his brothers having practised law in Pietermaritzburg. Discussing legal problems over the dinner table has broadened his understanding and interest in the law.
Duncan has a keen interest in estate planning and the winding up of deceased estates and has experience in the formation and management of trusts for the purpose of reducing liability for estate duty. Duncan is a notary public and works extensively on servitudes, notarial bonds, trusts, ante-nuptial contracts and leases.
For the past several years, Duncan has been an examiner on the Conveyancing Panel.
When not working, Duncan enjoys riding motorbikes, bicycles and swimming. As a former journalist he maintains an enthusiastic interest in current affairs.
